Introducing : Pherrow’s

Founded in 1991 by Masahiro Shimura, Pherrow’s is a respected name in heritage clothing.

The brand is known for its authentic approach to American workwear and casual clothing, blending traditional designs with modern twists. Pherrow’s focuses on creating garments that honour vintage American style, while incorporating contemporary innovations in fit, fabric, and details.

Masahiro Shimura was deeply involved with the development of another iconic Japanese brand, The Real McCoy’s, before founding Pherrow’s.

After leaving The Real McCoy’s, Shimura set out to create a brand that reflected his personal vision of American heritage clothing. His first collection, “STORMY BLUE,” focused on selvedge denim and quickly gained attention for its authenticity and quality. Tokyo’s SMART Clothing store, managed by Kenji Himeno, played a key role in the brand’s growth, helping establish Pherrow’s as a significant name in Japan’s heritage and streetwear scenes.

Initially, Pherrow’s focused on reproducing vintage American military and workwear, such as the Model L-2A Nylon Flight Jacket—a faithful reproduction of the 1950s American military jacket. These early pieces earned the brand a reputation for quality and attention to detail. However, as the brand developed, Shimura shifted the focus from strictly reproductions to innovative takes on classic designs. This included incorporating modern fabrics, new silhouettes, and unique design details, setting Pherrow’s apart from other heritage brands.

Expansion and Modernisation

Pherrow’s continued to expand its range, adding items like outdoor fleeces, track jackets, and sweatshirts to its offerings. The brand was one of the first to incorporate materials like polyester and nylon into its designs, providing fresh interpretations of classic American casual and sportswear. Despite these modern touches, Pherrow’s remained dedicated to traditional techniques, particularly in its signature denim pieces, which are made from high-quality Japanese selvedge denim.

In 2010, Takashi Ando took over as head designer. Under Ando’s leadership, Pherrow’s has maintained its focus on both honoring the past and embracing the future. The brand continues to produce garments that blend vintage inspiration with contemporary design, ensuring its relevance in the evolving heritage scene. Headquartered in Tokyo, Pherrow’s operates SMART Clothing stores across Japan and has expanded internationally.

Pherrow’s remains committed to high-quality materials and design, earning a loyal following among denim enthusiasts and collectors. Pherrow’s designs continue to honour mid-20th century American workwear, while pushing boundaries with innovative new designs and fabrics.
